ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. CMS ECAL End Cap Trigger Meeting. Meeting held 29th - 30th June 2005 Paris - Ecole Polytechnique. Prepared by A.B.Lodge.
ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. The talk is mostly ideas and initial concepts in relationship to numbering and labelling of component parts which go to make the the CMS ECAL EE: • Nothing is set in concrete. • Things can be changed (for good reason). • Incorrect understanding? • Better ideas? • Less work or cost? • Etc. etc…….etc? We should also keep in mind ‘Time Scale’ and ‘Level of Work’.
ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. • CMS ECAL EE Identification Ideas? When deciding on a scheme we should: • Not just Crystals and Super Crystals Numbers. • Keep it simple, when possible. • Clear and concise. • Unambiguous. • Minimise the level of documentation. • Minimise the possibility of mistakes during, the definition, manufacture, build and Integration.
ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. • What and How do we number on the CMS ECAL EE? • End Caps? • Dees? • SCs? • Crystals & VPTs? • HV Cards & Umbilical? • Mother Cards? • Cooling Bar assemblies? • VFE Cards + LV Cards? • FE & GOH Cards? • TRLB & Cables? • LV, HV, Fibre Optic Cables & Connectors? • Patch Panels etc?

ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. Previously agreed on to identify Crystal Numbers within each Super Crystal (SC)? SC - Crystal Numbers. A Super Crystal consists of a 5 * 5 matrix of PbWO4 Crystals contain and supported by a Carbon Fibre Alveolar. It is made unique by attaching it to the Back - Plate using a unique Aluminium Positional Spacer. 21 16 11 6 1 22 17 12 7 2 13 23 18 8 3 19 14 24 9 4 25 20 15 10 5 Viewed from the Rear (Cooling Bar Side) looking through the Back-plate at the Top Right-hand Quadrant.

ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. • CMS ECAL EE SC Types: • Initially would have liked all SCs to be the same (apart from their unique Positional Spacer). The reality is: • We need 2 types of interface plate (i.e. 2 types of SC). • Trigger Tower Mapping to Electronics? • Possibly Crystal sorting? • Possibly VPT sorting? Helen Madj

ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. 1 5 Once we have agreed the Mapping/Numbering of : • Trigger Tower Mapping ( Any 5). • Data Sector Mapping. • Trigger Sector Mapping. We could consider accessing the ECAL EE data in a similar way to this? 33a 2 6 17 18 19 33b 3 7 20 21 22 23 4 8 24 25 26 9 12 30 31 32 10 14 37 38 11 15 44 Data Sector Number ? 12 16
ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. • CMS ECAL EE Identification Ideas? I believe by using: • Relatively simple layout diagrams. • Trigger mapping diagrams. • Sector mapping miagrams. • Individual SC Connection Spreadsheet. • Individual TRLB Mapping Diagrams. • LV Distribution Mapping Diagrams. • Etc………. Will minimise the possibility of mistakes during, the definition, manufacture, build and Integration of the CMS ECAL EE.
ECAL EE Layout and Identification Proposal. • Conclusions: To continue to make progress with the complex and detailed Mapping of the EE Trigger Towers to VFE Electronics, also the FE (GOH) Fibre Optic Mapping to the EE Patch Panels Connectors we need to agree : • A detailed Trigger Tower Map? • The Trigger and Data Sector Mapping? • And finally the Trigger/Data Sector numbering and orientation.
