Organisation • Be able to organise things in a way you are comfortable with. • Know where things are, and what you need for each task you are given.
Integrity • If you make a mistake, accept it, and declare I, don’t let your mistakes ruin your work, and put the project in danger. • Everyone can mess up, but you’ll look better in the long run if you accept it rather than hide from it.
Social Skills • Being able to talk with people happily is a must in a workplace where everyone is working together. • Be friendly and open, and follow simple etiquette. • Be understanding of other peoples opinions and open to discussion.
Time Management • Prioritize your work. Always focus on what needs to be done first. • If you feel overwhelmed by your workload, explain it to your boss, if you don’t feel you have enough time to complete something, say so. Don’t leave it till the last minute.
Confidence • Show you are willing to learn and are willing to put the effort in to do so. • Giving off the idea that you are ready for a challenge will put you in a great light, even if it ends up with you struggling, at least you were willing to give it a go. • On the other hand, don’t be overconfident. Cockiness can be a downfall.
Self Motivation • Don’t rely on everyone else to praise you. Some people are busy doing their own thing, be able to cheer yourself on, and make yourself go for that final push to get the work done. • Put effort into everything you do, even if nobody's going to see that bit of code, you'll know its there, and if you know its not done to your full potential, go back, and do it again.
Independence • Don’t expect to be told what to do all the time, use your initiative, common sense goes a long way. • Being independent shows not only that you are able, but that you are also willing. Independence is a must in a competitive business.
Verbal Skills • Being able to speak confidently will prove to be a hugely useful skill in the workplace. • Never be shy to voice your opinion, if you think something's wrong, then say so. • Never be scared to ask a question, if your confused, don’t worry, nobody knows the answer to every question, and we all have to start somwhere.
Leadership • Being able to take charge and help your team out is something a company will always be looking for. • Leadership doesn’t consist of doing peoples work, it consists of helping them, and making sure they can complete their tasks in time. • A leader isn't just a work based helper however, a leader should be approachable about personal problems too.
Dress Appropriately • Come to work/interviews looking smart. Even if you feel out of place, if you can be seen to make an effort to look good, then it shows you are willing to try at everything. • Take pride in your appearance, just like you would take pride in your work. Nobody wants to watch someone who looks untidy doing a presentation. Keep it smart, untidiness draws peoples attention away from what’s important.
