This report outlines the development of agricultural statistics in Kazakhstan, including data sources, coverage of surveys, and classification systems used. It also highlights the improvements made according to the Global Strategy and the KAZSTAT project, which aims to strengthen the national statistical system. Coverage of statistical surveys in agriculture • Surveys with full coverage of agricultural • enterprises • Surveys with the sampling of 30% of • farms and 5% of households Sampling is carried out since 2004 with use of the methodology developed on the basis of recommendations provided by the National statistical service (NASS) of the US Department of Agriculture
Classifications used in agricultural statistics • General classification of economic activities,harmonized with • NACE Rev.2 • Statistical classification of products (services) in agriculture, • forestry and fishery, harmonized with CPA 2008 Classifications are revised every 5 years. The last revision took place in 2013-2014

Improvement of agricultural and rural statistics in Kazakhstan according to the Global Strategy (continued) • Data on availability of grain in the country is compiled monthly as • an indicator for measurement of food security: full-coverage • statistical survey including all participants of the grain market Statistical questionnaire on availability and movement of grain was updated in 2012 • A special survey on productivity (sampling of wheat and rice from • the farms’ fields) is conductedto control the quality of the • respondents‘ data on gross grain yield Survey methodology was developed in 2004 with assistance of experts of the US Department of Agriculture. Improvements of this methodology are implemented in the current year
Improvement of agricultural statistics within the KAZSTAT project KAZSTAT project: “Strengthening of the National Statistical System of Kazakhstan” is implemented together with World Bank and the Consortium leaded by the German Statistical Office (Destatis) Within the KAZSTAT project Kazakhstan is provided with methodological and technical assistance on various questions of agricultural statistics. Activities within the Project: - consultations by international experts; - study visits of the Committee’s staff to foreign statistical offices; - trainings for the staff of central and regional offices of the Committee Methodology for statistical data compilation and surveys of various categories of agricultural producers will be improved, and new data collection methods will be introduced Implementation of the Project in the sphere of agricultural statistics is carried out in cooperation with colleagues from statistical offices of Denmark and Poland
Improvement of agricultural statistics within the KAZSTAT project (continued) Expected results of KAZSTAT project are as follows: - to improve and introduce the updated methodology on gross output compilation in agriculture starting from 2016; - to introduce the system of Computer Assisted Telephone Interview (CATI) in 2016; - to improve and introduce the updated methodology on sample surveys of farms and households in the area of crops and livestock in 2017; - to improve the Agricultural statistical register
