Revolution of 1848 • Monarchy overthrown again • Another provisional (temporary) government is set up by moderates • New Government • The Constituent Assembly • Granted universal male suffrage • Organized workshops so unemployed could find work • Causes government treasury to empty • Revolution • Workers take to the streets and are put down by government forces • Many sent to prisons in the French colony of Algeria
