1. 2012-13 Season Highlights LAKER WRESTLING • High School Prior Lake won the Section 2AAA team tournament for the third straight year and once again the team finished 3rd in State! They capped off their outstanding season with a convincing 34-21 win over Owatonna in their final match and they closed the gap on perennial power Apple Valley losing 19-36 in the semi-finals. Six wrestlers qualified for the Individual State Tourney where Tanner Johnshoy, Blake Carlisle & Alex Hart each placed third. • Middle School The Middle School wrestlers had a very successful season. They placed 2nd in three team tourneys before ending their year by winning the NYWA Team State Tournament. They beat the defending champions, Kasson-Mantorville 19-18 in the opening round and top seeded Albert Lea 31-9 in the finals. The team also won the Paul Wolf Sportsmanship Award and NYWA Coach of the Year honors were given to coaches Joe O’Connor and Chad LeMair. Individually the team had several outstanding wrestlers who placed in State and National tournaments: Gunner Charbonneau – 2nd NYWA State, Curtis LeMair – 3rd USA State, Zach Smith – 4th NYWA State, Devon Noer – 6th USA State & 8th USA Nationals. • Youth Our youth program had 75 kids in it this past season. While there were many novice wrestlers on the squad, there were also some very talented young athletes such as Jaycee State Champ Tyler Leonard and USA Greco-Roman State Runner-up Alan Koehler. About PLWC The Prior Lake Wrestling Club is proud to be involved in all levels of wrestling in the Prior Lake Area school district from Pre-K through High School. This unique structure has many advantages over a typical sports club such as simplified event planning, coordinated fundraising efforts, continuity of coaching and improved communications.
