  2. Background • Scotland’s population is ageing. • Public Service Reform • Scottish Government is committed to enabling people to live independently and comfortably at home. • Housing plays a key role • Adaptations are an effective preventative service

  3. Adaptations Working Group • Adaptations Working Group was established in 2011 (C&R Scotland a member) • Remit to consider funding and delivery arrangements foradaptations across all housing tenures • Group published its final reports in late 2012

  4. Group’s Conclusions • Demand is increasing but funds are not • Focus on crisis situations – not Prevention • Current system is too complex and unequal • Pockets of good practice • Fundamental change needed

  5. Recommendations • Fundamental change to delivery systems • Tenure neutral approach • Single Access Point / Funding Pot • Person centred • Prevention • Fair and consistent • Test Approaches

So Far • Scottish Ministers agreed to work to take forward the Group’s recommendations • Adapting for Change Advisory Group established in October 2013 to help SG implement recommendations • Broad representation including housing, OT and health professionals, service users & carers (C&R Scotland involved)

  7. Advisory Group Remit • Support the implementation of the recommendations • Agree a small number of demonstration sites • Review and comment on the evidence gathered from the demonstration sites • Contribute to the development of guidance

  8. Adapting for Change Event – 22 May • Idea exchange • Identifying new and innovative approaches • Contribute to the process for identifying demonstration sites • Attended by LAs, C&R projects, RSLs, and others

  9. Now • Feedback from Event collected • Call for Proposals to be issued soon • Small number of Demonstration Sites will be identified from Proposals • Progress of the sites will be monitored and evaluated • Material used to develop new guidance
