  5. MISSION Why the organization exists. What functions it performs, and for whom it performs.~To provide relevant, comprehensive, quality instruction in order to educate, prepare, and inspire our students to learn.

  6. VALUES Deeply held driving forces for action and conduct ~Our students are cared for and treated as if they are our own. ~Children learn differently.

  7. VALUES Deeply held driving forces for action and conduct ~The differences of each are assets of the whole. ~Talents and resources are used wisely to benefit students.

  15. BASIC STUDY SKILLS LOGICAL STEPS TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS

  16. LEARNING STYLES:PREASSESSMENT • Should you study in the same place each time you study? • How many test taking strategies can you name? • What is your primary learning style? • What study method(s) best suit your learning style?

  17. VISUAL LEARNERS • Use color coding • Use checklists • Use notes, charts, graphs, maps, or other visual aids • Use highlighters • Use visual imaging • READ! READ! READ

  18. AUDITORY LEARNERS • Use books on tape • WITH PERMISSION use tape recorders • Use “chants” • Use mnemonic devices • Read aloud • Use pair & share or quiz with partner

  19. TACTILE/KINESTHETHIC LEARNERS • Exercise as you study • Trace text with a special highlighter as you read • Use flashcards • Use tracing • Use models, computers, or other assistive technology • Use a stress ball

  20. TEST TAKING STRATEGIES • Know the test format • Know the test standards • Know the test time limits • Read all parts of every question • Use a “fall-back” letter for multiple choice tests • Use LOGICAL guessing strategies

  21. Study for tests in chunks over time Prepare possible questions that may be on the test and answer those Make notes of reading material covered on a test Check your notes, ideas, and concepts with a successful peer TEST TAKING STRATEGIES
