  3. What is oajnu?

OAJNU is a Non Governmental organization, without aims of profit, pluralist, created and directed by young people committed with Human Development. • Founded in 1995, at the moment, it has headquarters in the principal cities of the country: • Buenos Aires • Mendoza • Córdoba • Rosario • Salta • It has over 300 members from 17 to 30 years.

Our vision • Constitute ourselves as a reference for the empowerment of people conscious of their leading role in society and committed with Human Development, that contribute to the construction of a tolerant and participative society, which values multilateral instances as useful tools in the seek of sustainable solutions.

  12. Some of our projects... • UN Model simulations: 65 Models since 1995. Over 30,000 participants. • Infant Citizenship Project: since 2002, developed in 7 editions over the country. Over 6,000 participants. • Literary Contest: diverse topics, since 2002. • Youth Venture: in cooperation with Ashoka Argentina. • Citizen Agreement with the Earth. • National Youth Forum on citizenship, democracy and Participation. • Street campaigns on the Volunteer International Day, the International Youth Day, the International Day Against Poverty, International Day of Peace, Every Human Has Rights Campaign. • Technologies for the Change Program. • Participation in International Forums on youth, citizen participation, peace and democracy. • Multimedia Center for Information and Documentation. • Network of Youth Organizations of Buenos Aires. • Trainings coorganized with: Youth Council of Spain and the UE., Hernandiana Foundation, INCIDE, National Youth Agency.

Since its foundation, OAJNU has been working in cooperation with other institutions to achieve its mission: • Member of: • Department of Public Information of the United Nations. • Civicus – World alliance for citizen participation • National Platform of Youth Organizations – member of the Iberoamerican Platform of Youth participation. • United Network of Young Peacebuilders. • Partners of: • National Movement of Water and Citizenship • Peacechild International • Ashoka Argentina • And also we have worked in close relation with other NGOs from Argentina, and Internationally as well. We have also gained the support from Universities from all over the country, several companies and different governmental agencies.

All of the OAJNU members work mainly in a volunteer basis. • Our budget is financed by three kind of contributions: • Contributions from the members and associates. • Contributions from the participants of our projects. • External funding for specific projects. • In the last years, the External funding has grown significantly, not only from companies from all over the country, but also from the following Government agencies and International Sources: • European Union, Youth Action Programme • UN – Youth Solidarity Fund • Mapfre Foundation • World Bank – Small Grants Program • Youth General Direction of Buenos Aires • PeaceChild International • Youth National Direction • Naumann Organization • British Council • COMPÁS, Catholic University of Córdoba • ARCOR foundation
