Agenda • Welcome and Introductions • HB2008 Update • Recommendations for next workshop • Proposals and selection for next workshop • Adjourn
HB2008 Numbers • 115 Registrants • 8 Students • ~110 Submissions (invited + contributed) • 3 Sponsors • 41 tour participants
HB2008 Issues: Changes in the Workshop Scope • IAC strongly encouraged to avoid dedicated sessions on topics that are covered in their own workshop series: • Beam Cooling • Electron Cloud effects • IAC strongly encouraged to limit parallel sessions to a maximum of two (as opposed to three in HB2006) • Impact: HB2008 is smaller than previous workshops. Is this a good thing?
HB2008 Issues: Poster Session • First poster session in the HB workshop series • Motivation: • It is good to have a “relief valve” for contributed abstracts • Most attendees must present a paper. With reduced scope and only two parallel sessions we wanted a way to encourage attendance beyond the invited program
HB2008 Issues: Participation • Budget cuts/travel constraints at the labs: • Within US: BNL, FNAL, … • Outside US: CERN • LHC Commissioning Schedule: HB2006 had 14 CERN participants, HB2008 has 7 • China Earthquake: 6 participants cancelled • US Visa issues: 4 participants cancelled
HB2008 Issues: Sponsorship • Sponsors are very important in a small workshop like this one. • We had valuable support from • Muons, Inc. • Hewlett Packard/Holman’s • Tech-X
HB2008 Special Edition of PRST-AB • HB2008 authors who (in addition to publishing in the conference proceedings) wish to submit for refereed publication are encouraged to consider submission of articles to a Special Edition of the online journal Physical Review Special Topics Accelerators and Beams (PRST-AB). • Accepted papers, which relate to contributions of the HB2008 workshop, will be issued in a special edition of this journal.
Recommendations for Next Workshop • Number of parallel sessions • Poster session • Other issues?
