Accessing the Information Centre’s webpage • Access the GIBS website www.gibs.co.za • Click on Resources & Facilities • A drop down menu appears • Click on Information Centre 2. Accessing the Electronic databases • Click Electronic databases • Scroll down and click on InfoTrac One File

  2. Info Trac Onefile Quick Guide 3. Accessing Info Trac Onefile • Type in your surname • Type in your student number • Click on Submit TIP: Remember to put a ‘g’ in front of your student number 4. Searching Info Trac Onefile • Select individual database(s) to search • Default – Keep all databases selected • Click on Submit

Searching Info Trac Onefile (cont.) • Click Advanced Search • TIP: The best option to use when searching any database is the ADVANCED SEARCH option. It provides the searcher with more options to limit or expand searches 5. Advanced Search – Screen options PUBLICATION SEARCH Alphabetical list of all journals, magazines, newsletters and reports available on this database TITLE LIST Alphabetical list of all databases managed by Infotrac/Thomson Gale BOOLEAN OPERATORS AND / OR / NOT DATE RANGE Limit a search by specifying the date range BROWSE PUBLICATION TITLES Alphabetical list of subjects terms and topics available

Results list • Results are groups according to publication type • Click taps to make selection SUBJECT TERMS Additional options to narrow your results Indicates document types To view a record click on the title OR Select the format (Full text/PDF) you want to view the article in OR Mark it by ticking in the box to view later (Retrieve via Marked Items) TIP: To view articles, right click on the link, select OPEN IN NEW WINDOW - helps to keep your original list of articles, in case you accidentally close the window. If there is NO Full Text or PDF options available, make use of all the other databases you have access to
