  1. Thursday, March13, 2014 HW: COMPLETE “HOW WOULD I FEEL” HANDOUT • Read The Weirdo, pages: • 3rd: 254-260 (195-200) • 4th: 252-260 (193-200) • 5th: 248-260 (191-200) • 6th: 252-260 (193-200) • Answer Book Four Question 5 & 8

  2. Discussion Questions • What is a drop cloth? Why does Sam suddenly realize it was a drop cloth she saw the man carrying over the bundle? Why do both Chip and Sam recognize Buddy Bailey? What do you suppose would happen if they confronted him? • How did Chip “hide” in Columbus? How does the reader learn this? • Why does Sam’s father want her to go to the meeting? As her friend, would you advise her to go or stay home?

  3. Read The Weirdo, page 260-275 (200-211) • Answer Book 4 Questions: #7, 9, & 10

  4. How Would I Feel? - Turn in for a GRADE • Use this Frame Sentence to start your answer: • If I … , I would feel … because … . • Reword the question to start your sentence. Start with “If.” • How do you think you would have felt if you were alone and discovered a dead body beside your house? • Change forms of “you” to “I, me, my” • Put a comma after the “if” clause • Example: #1: If Iwere alone and discovered a dead body beside my house,I would feel panicked because I would be scared for my own life. I would wonder where the killer was and if he were still nearby. I would wonder what to do next; should I call the police or my mom? • Discussion Questions: • Is Chip a good speaker? What evidence does he use to bolster his case? • Is Sam’s father a good speaker? What sort of information does he use to support his claim? • How does Sam rebel against her father at the meeting? How does he respond? Are Sam’s actions – and her father’s response – believable? Are you surprised that Sam’s father later tells her he is proud of her for speaking at the meeting? • Do you think Sam and her father have a better understanding of each other now – or will they interact with each other the same as they always have?
