To receive a high school diploma, selecting appropriate courses for success is essential. We are here to help you.

  5. Graduation Requirements • 4 years of English • 3 years of Science: • Conceptual Physics or Physics, Chemistry, & Biology • 3 years of History: • US History I, US History II, World History • 2 years of World Languages (consecutive) Students must choose two World Language options. (one is an alternate) • 1 year of Health/Physical Education for each year enrolled • 3 years of Mathematics • Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, PreCalculus, etc.

Required Courses for 9th Graders • English I or English I Honors • US History I or US I Honors • Conceptual Physics, Physics, Physics Honors, or AP Physics 1 (Based upon Math placement) • Health & PE I • World Language • Math Course – Based upon current placement • Elective Courses – Your choice

  7. 9th Grade Mathematics Placement Requirements • Algebra II Prerequisites: Current Algebra 8 Assessment average of 75-96 Current Algebra 8 Accelerated Assessment average of 70-84 • Algebra II Honors Prerequisites: Current Algebra 8 Assessment average of 97-100 Current Algebra 8 Accelerated Assessment average of 85 – 100

  8. 9th Grade Mathematics Placement Requirements • Geometry Prerequisite: Current Algebra II Honors Assessment Average 84% or less • Geometry Honors* Prerequisite: Current Algebra II Honors Assessment Average of 85% or higher *Students placed in Geometry Honors have the option of choosing AP Physics 1 for their science placement.

  9. 9th Grade Mathematics Placement Requirements • *Algebra 1 (10 credits) Prerequisites: Current Algebra 8, Part 1 assessment average of 74 or less All current Math 8 students • *Algebra 1, Part 2 (5 credits) Prerequisites: Current Algebra 8, Part 1 assessment average of 75 or more Current Algebra 8 assessment average of 74 or less *Any student enrolled in Algebra 1 or Algebra 1, Part 2 must enroll in Conceptual Physics. A passing Algebra 1 PARCC score is a NJ High School Graduation Requirement

Option: Doubling Up in Honors Math • 8th graders currently in Algebra I Accelerated with an “A+” average have the option to take both Geometry Honors and Algebra II Honors at the same time next year. • Sequence of Math: • 9th Grade: Algebra II Honors & Geometry Honors • 10th Grade: Pre-calculus Honors • 11th Grade: Calculus Honors, AP Calculus AB, or AP Calculus BC • 12th Grade: AP Statistics or Multivariable Calculus

  11. Science Placement based upon Math Placement • Algebra 1 & Algebra 1, Part 2 = Conceptual Physics • Algebra 2 = Physics or Physics Honors • Algebra 2 Honors = Physics or Physics Honors • Geometry = Physics or Physics Honors • Geometry Honors = Physics, Physics Honors, or AP Physics 1

  12. AP Physics 1 Prerequisite • Completion of Algebra 2 Honors in 8th grade with an assessment average of an 85% or higher • We currently have 12 ninth graders enrolled in AP Physics 1 for this year

Graduation Requirements • Electives • 1 year or 5 credits in Visual and Performing Arts • 1 year or 5 credits in 21st Century Skills (Family Consumer Science, Business, & Technology) • 1 semester or 2.5 credits Technology • 1 semester or 2.5 credits Financial Literacy • (Can begin to take in Sophomore Year) • Community service requirement of 30 hours • Students can begin to acquire hours starting in September 2018

  20. Bell ScheduleClasses are 85 minutes long and there are 4 minutes in between each block.   21. Organizational Tips • Get an A-Day & B-Day Book Bag • Do your homework on the same day it is given • A-Day: Do A-Day Homework • B-Day: Do B-Day Homework • Teachers are in the classroom from 2:05pm – 2:35pm every day to assist students

PARCC Graduation RequirementClass of 2022 (8th Grade) and Beyond • For the class of 2022 and beyond, students must take PARCC ELA 9, 10, and 11; however, they must pass ELA 10 in order to satisfy the graduation requirement for ELA. • For math, students must take PARCC Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra II; however, they must pass Algebra 1 in order to satisfy the graduation requirement for Math. • This graduation requirement includes middle school students who take Algebra 1 in 7th or 8th grade.

  23. PARCC Graduation RequirementClass of 2022 (8th Grade) and Beyond • If students do not pass ELA 10 or Algebra 1: • Students will have to submit a NJDOE portfolio appeal. • Supports are in place for students that may need to this option: • English Lab • Math Lab

  27. What is an AP course? • AP = Advanced Placement • AP Physics 1 is the only AP offered to a 9th grader. Students are required to have Algebra 2 Honors completed prior to enrolling • No more than 3 AP Courses per year • Expectations • Viewed as a college course • Summer assignments • Large amount of independent study • Examination given through College Board in May

Course Appeal Process • Waiver Form for Courses • Can only waive 2 courses per year • Overall Academic Performance • Standardized Test Scores • Teacher Recommendation • Attendance/Discipline Record • Waiving Math Placement: Additional step required to meet with current Math teacher • Mrs. Rotondo will provide waiver forms next week at Pond • Bring signed waiver forms to high school course selection meeting or turn into Mrs. Singer.

  29. Scheduling Course Selection Meetings (Pond Only) On Friday, March 2nd, Parent Portal will be open at 8am to allowing you to schedule your high school course selection meeting. An email will be sent out to notify you that it is open. This is same process on how you schedule conferences with your teachers.

  32. Scheduling Course Selection Meetings (Pond Only) Meetings are every 15minutes starting at 7:15am. The last meeting time is 2:15pm

  34. Unable to make your appointment? • If you need to change your appointment time, please call/email Mrs. Karen Lubbers, RHS Counseling Department Secretary: 609.632.0950 x.3029 or lubbers@robbinsville.k12.nj.us • If needed, we have met with the student at Pond by themselves.

Course Selection Process • Schedule a meeting online with your counselor to discuss courses (students & parents/guardians attend the meeting) Come Prepared-(meetings are every 10 -15mins.) • Review Program of Studies (2018– 2019 Program of Studies Link on RHS main website) • Read elective descriptions and requirements • Complete Course Selection sheet • Rank Electives in order of preference • Submit Course Selection Sheet By Friday, March 9to your homeroom teacher or to Mrs. Singer in the Main Office at Pond. This will allow us to input courses into the system prior to our meetings. • Try your best! We can still make changes during our meeting.

  37. New Families to District New Families to the District need to first register through the central registration office. Once you register, we will make an appointment for you to meet with your counselor to complete course selection. • Please call 609.632.0910 x.2288 to make a registration appointment • Please come prepared with all forms completed and required documents in hand

  38. Parent Portal • Live Teacher Grade Book • Login and Password will remain the same • Families new to the district will receive an email once you register with a login and password. • Check grades regularly • View Class Schedule at the end of August

Activities • GET INVOLVED!!!!! • There is something for everyone • There will be a club fair during the first two weeks of school for new students to sign up during lunch • Mr. Wyers, our athletic director, conducts an information session for new students/parents about RHS sports in June 2018 prior to your arrival. An email will be forth coming.

  45. Attendance Procedures The Board of Education requires that the pupils enrolled in the school district attend school regularly in accordance with the laws of the state. Robbinsville High School reinforces the attendance policy. Full Year Courses: Maximum of 8 days per course Half Year/Semester Courses: Maximum of 4 days per course Three Tardies to a course = 1 Absence for that course Attendance is taken by course not by date. If students go over the allotted days, they will lose credit from their courses even if they have a passing grade. The attendance office will send warning letters home. Attendance hearings are held monthly with an Attendance Committee.

  46. Fall Orientation • New Student Orientation is highly encouraged. • Students will receive their homeroom, locker number & print out of their schedule. • Wednesday, September 5this orientation. The time is 7:30am – 9:00am. • Thursday, September 6th is the first day of school. • Students will receive bus transportation.
