Hungarian HE in numbers (Population of Hungary: 9,6 million) 67 HEIs 23 state universities, 8 private (incl. 5 religious) 7 state colleges, 28 private (incl. 20 religious) Student population: ~ 300 000 Full-time students:~ 220 000 Short cycle students: ~ 8 000 Doctoral students: ~ 5 500 Tuition-free (state supported): ~ 147 000 (68%)

Legal background / obstacles • Joint / double degrees: ex ante accreditation of HAC required • Other ENQUA agencies can do it since 2015 (still ex ante, by the agency) • Long and complicated procedure (compared to manyother EHEA countries) • Institutions should be authorised to accredit joint / double degree programs ex post accreditation of programmes enough (with the ex post accreditation of institutes)
