Center for Social Responsibility& Community (CSRC) Service Learning (SL): (an applied learning option) “A credit-bearing teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflectionto enrich the learning experience and strengthen communities” Course content Reflection Community experience
CSRC Aligning with the Strategic Plan 2015 GOAL 1: Increase students’ engagement throughout their collegiate experience GOAL 2: Promote inquiry, service and scholarship Action Item: Offer 50 SL courses by May 2018 Challenges: • Faculty completing paperwork • 50 courses x 20 students per class = placing 1,000 students • Not enough community partners within our “bus range” • Transportation
CSRC SL Designation Process & Faculty SL Handbookavailable on CSRC web site: oneonta.edu/academics/csrc • Email short form to Executive Director • Email syllabus to Executive Director • Sent to Curriculum Committee (subcommittee) for approval • Approval sent to registrar for (SL) designation
