Oxfam Hong Kong is an independent development and relief agency based in Hong Kong. Oxfam works with poor people regardless of race, sex, religion or politics in their struggle against poverty, distress and suffering.
What is Trailwalker • Trailwalker is an annual 100km walkathon organized by Oxfam Hong Kong to raise funds to help poor people to help themselves. • Since 1986, Trailwalker raised more than $120 million.
History of Trailwalker • 1981: An endurance training & fundraising event for Gurkhas (55 teams) • 1986: open to public, a non-military team won, OHK co-organized the event (100 teams) • 1996: Gurkhas left the territory, OHK took over the event (700 teams)
Trailwalker • 2nd week of November (Fri - Sun) • a team event; a testing of perseverance, endurance and team spirit • 100 km MacLehose Trail in 48 hours • Super-trailwalker : complete the trail within 18 hours • 900 teams; 3,600 walkers • Support team: 3,600 people • Volunteers from government depts and voluntary associations: 3,000 people
