  5. Homework and Resource Folders We are getting an assignment log for third grade for the first time this year. YEAH!! Math is assigned nightly unless we have a test. Please check to make sure your child’s homework is complete and provide him or her feedback. Other homework or unfinished work will be assigned as needed. Return the homework and resource folder daily. Reading and completing a reading log IS homework.

Homework • Homework will include: • Math: • Nightly page in the homework book. • If a test is given, the homework may include a review homework worksheet • Study Problem of the Day (1x/week) • Study math facts • Daily math facts • Spelling: • Spelling lists will be in the homework folder • Study the spelling words missed on the pretest • Spelling City: spellingcity.com • Language Arts • Study Daily Language and Grammar Review (1X/week) • Fluency or • Comprehension or • Grammar skill review • Science And Social Studies • Occasional workbook pages • Project • Very few home projects.

  8. Reading Log • 100 minutes of reading per week is expected. • Please document reading for the week in the assignment calendar. I will be looking for 100 minutes each week. • Please initial at the bottom of each day that you have checked the homework and verified the reading minutes. • Thank you!

Grade Level Curriculum • Language Arts, Reading, Writing and Spelling • Various literature genres and expository texts in the Wonders • Expository text in Science and Social Studies • AR – Students will be tested in computers to determine their level, and then they will select books accordingly. A minimum of 15 points per trimester is expected. • Mathematics • GO Math • Problem of the Day– Skills Practice • Timed Facts– please practice flash cards, computer games, links on the blog and etc • Science • Physical science, earth science, and life science • Social Studies • Geography, American Indians, community history, government, citizenship, and map skills • VAPA • Visual and performing arts will be integrated into our curriculum

  12. Grading • Your child will earn grades based on the district guidelines based on their performance on tests, quizzes, informal assessments, and writing assignments. I will use the program “Making the Grade” to record and average grades. Please note that when you receive a Making the Grade report the weighting scale is not provided. The grading scale is: • 90-100% = A (Outstanding) • 80-89% = B (Above Average) • 70-709% = C (Average) • 60-609% = D (Below Average) • 0-59% = F (Unsatisfactory; Failing)

Report Cards and Conferences • There are three reporting periods during the year. • Students will receive 3 progress reports and 3 report cards throughout the year. • No conferences on the year round schedule • I will contact via email and call if necessary to update you on your child’s classroom performance. • Individual conferences can be set up upon • request or if necessary by the teacher.

  15. FIELD TRIPS • Our field trips have not been finalized. Our tentative plans are for: • Maidu Center • Effie Yeaw • District Nutrition Center • Sheldon Performing Arts Center • We are looking into additional field trips this year. • We also plan several at school “field trips” by inviting guest speakers. These may include: • “All About Trees” from the Forest Foundation • CA Waterfowl Association • Wildlife Rescue Organization

  16. TEXTBOOKS: • PLEASE MAKE SURE TEXTBOOKS ARE TAKEN CARE OF. YOUR CHILD WILL NEED FOUR TEXTBOOK COVERS THIS YEAR. • CHECK THE CONDITION OF THE TEXTBOOK WHEN IT COMES HOME. COMPLETE THE TEXTBOOK CONDITION FORM AND RETURN IT TO SCHOOL WITH THE BOOK. • THE FAMILY IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF DAMAGED BOOKS. THEY CAN COST AS MUCH AS $90 EACH!

Classroom Supplies and Donations • Some extra items if would like to purchase for your student include: • 1 box of Crayons 24count • 2 folders (one with pockets and one with three brads and pockets) • 1 Composition book (wide ruled only) • 1 Spiral bound wide ruled notebook • 4 large book covers (stretchable) • 1 Expo marker • 1 Red pen • 1 Highlighter • 1 pair ear buds (for Chrome Book use at school) • (If your child brings larger than the requested size or other personal items such as scissors, markers, colored pencils, they need to be labeled and kept in a small personal pencil box. If the items don’t fit into his or her desk, they will be sent home nightly.) • We are also in need of class items, please send in any time : • boxes of tissues • cleaning wipes • pencils (number 2) • Expo markers • Glue sticks • Cap pencil erasers • Hand sanitizer Donations: If you are able, third grade is asking for a $20 donation. Please see the letter that describes it’s purposes.

  23. Reminders • Put your child’s name on everything that comes to school • Athletic shoes on PE days (Wednesday, Friday, and some Thursdays) • Homework folders and Math Homework books come back to school every day • Please send Wednesday Folders back on Thursday.
