Update on PASC Cooperation in IEC TC 111 APEC/SCSC/TFTF Meeting, Cairns Mitsuo Matsumoto JISC/Japan
Background Following the APEC-SCSC-TFTF meeting in Hanoi, February 2006, PASC members agreed to initiate a pilot programme to increase regional participation in international standardization activities • IEC TC 111 - Environmental standardization for electrical and electronic products and systems [led by Japan] • ISO TC 223 - Societal Security [led by USA]
Activities in Pilot Programme • PASC experts hold informal meetings just before the IEC/TC 111 and ISO/TC 223 meetings to exchange information and share positions regarding the agendas of TCs • PASC experts increase their intersessional communications and networking as well
IEC TC 111Members from PASC Region PASC holds 9 of 25 of the P memberships (36%) PASC holds 2 of 6 of the O memberships (33%) PASC holds 11 of 31 of the total membership (35%) P-members: Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, South Africa, Thailand, USA O-members: Mexico, Singapore
PASC experts pre-meeting • Organized just before the last IEC/TC 111 meeting held February 28 and March 1 in Tokyo, Japan • Around 30 experts from PASC region got together • Plan of next PASC experts pre-meeting Prior to the 5th plenary meeting of IEC/TC 111(25and26October 2007 in Paris, France)
Future Cooperation • Benefits recognized by PASC experts • The number of ISO/IEC technical meetings in the Pacific region should be increased • Pre-meetings should be extended to another ISO/IEC TCs
