Inisiatif Perak… • Registered on 14th March 2005 • Social non-governmental organisation that aims to improve socio-economic conditions by providing free trainings in educational related fields • Objectives • To provide free educational materials for underprivileged school children • Community based programs to promote the importance of early childhood education • To promote the importance of learning English language to primary school children • Educate the general public, especially parents, on the importance of education and how they could play a pivotal role in educating their children • To educate the public and parents on the relevancy of new technologies such as Internet in supporting the educational needs of their children • Past Projects include :- • Education & Career Fair (State of Perak), March 2006 • English Tuition Classes for 200 Underprivileged School Children in District of Ulu Kinta, Perak • Career Guidance Week (State of Perak), March 2007 • English Camp, Ulu Kinta, Perak, November 2007 – Conducted for 12 villages • Free English Classes for the General Public, Ipoh Public Library, 2007 & 2008 Page 1

6. Current Scenario… • Rural Based Primary School… • Have little exposure to English • Speak their first languages • Lack of proficiency among English teachers • Lack of simulating resources and limited English exercises • Internet and multimedia resources are not being utilized Page 5

E-Tube Studio… Aims and Objectives To install, setup and manage ICT infrastructure in rural schools To enhance the proficiency of English among children of rural areas To increase self-confident among rural school children To create awareness among rural school children on the importance of English language To change the misconception about English among rural school children i.e. English is a difficult language to learn To encourage the rural school children to use ICT tool to learn English Page 6

E-Tube Studio… Aims and Objectives To provide interactive platform to learn English To encourage school children to use the available Internet resources to enhance proficiency in English To increase the chances of acceptance at both local and foreign universities by mastering English language To provide UPSR based resources to prepare students for UPSR English examination To create greater awareness on the importance of English as a vehicle to acquire knowledge especially in the field of science and technology To enable school children to compete in the globalised world by mastering English language To produce competent graduates with abilities to converse in English to fulfill the needs of workforce Page 7

Project Site… SK Kampung Kenang, Sungai Siput, Perak • The distance from the nearest town, Sungai Siput is ±25 km. • The road ends in Kampung Kenang and thereafter a dirt road serves the interiors of Kinta Forest Reserve leading to several ‘orang asli’ villages. • A computer lab (E | Tube Studio) has been set up with 12 unit of computers for the benefit of the school children. • Electricity, water and telephone connection is available. 10. Target Group… 100% of the pupils are Orang Asli children from the surrounding villages. Most of them are from poor family background with average income among them are far below the poverty line. They have very limited knowledge in English Language. Total number of students who will be involved in E | Tube Studio project : 132 students (21 students of each year – Year 1 to 6) Page 9

11. Target Group… Table 1 : Number of Students Passed in UPSR Examination from 1999 to 2010 In 2010, E | Tube Studio Project was implemented in SK Kampung Kenang. The students have learned English language using the interactive E | Tube Studio Portal. Achievement in English subject in UPSR Exam 2010 : 5 students passed with one student scored ‘B’. This shows that the project has achieved the main objective in improving the UPSR result in terms of quantity and quality! Page 10

Project Methodology… METHODOLOGY END PRODUCT • Setting Up E | Tube Studio lab • Development of E | Tube Studio website consisting of video tutorials, quizzes, assignments, E-Portfolio and etc. • Basic ICT lessons • Capacity building program that includes motivational talks, seminars, workshops, Train the Trainer program and etc. • English proficiency among rural school children will be increased • Percentage of pass in English UPSR of rural schools will be increased • Trained teachers to teach English via the E | Tube Studio website • English is no longer a difficult subject to learn – make learning more fun ICT TOOLS TO TEACH ENGLISH Page 11
