History of Dragon Boat Festival This Festival is called Tuen Ng Festival. It remembers the death of a Chinese national hero, Qu-yuan, who jumped into the Mi Lo River over 2,000 years ago. People wanted to rescue him. They beat drums to scare fish away and threw dumplings into the sea to keep the fish from eating Qu-yuan’s body.
Qu-yuan • Qu-yuan was born about two thousand years ago in China. • He was a great poet. • He gave advice to the emperor. • He died on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month many years ago.
