  2. History of Dragon Boat Festival This Festival is called Tuen Ng Festival. It remembers the death of a Chinese national hero, Qu-yuan, who jumped into the Mi Lo River over 2,000 years ago. People wanted to rescue him. They beat drums to scare fish away and threw dumplings into the sea to keep the fish from eating Qu-yuan’s body.

  3. Qu-yuan • Qu-yuan was born about two thousand years ago in China. • He was a great poet. • He gave advice to the emperor. • He died on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month many years ago.

  4. Activites • People eat rice dumplings. • People see Dragon Boat races. • People go to swim.

  6. Changes of customs People wear a set of black suits at Dragon Boat Festival. Reason: Qu-yuan died on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. It is a sad day, so people should not wear beautifully. They should wear black suits to remember Qu-yuan.

  7. Changes of customs People no longer have Dragon Boat races. Reason: At Dragon Boat Festival, it is very dangerous to have boat races. People should not do it again. Instead, people can play chess about Dragon Boat Festival on that day.
