Chronology of Revolution • October 27, 1918: Naval mutinies break out in Kiel. • November 4, 1918: Workers’ and Soldiers’ Council formed at Kiel. • November 9, 1918: Republic declared in Berlin, and Ebert becomes Chancellor over SPD-USPD coalition. • November 10, 1918: Formation of government of the Council of People’s Representatives • December 16, 1918: Congress of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Councils decides to call elections for a National Assembly on January 19, 1919. • February 11, 1919: Ebert elected President of the Republic. • June 28, 1919: Treaty of Versailles
William II (Wilhelm II) • Was the Last German Emperor • He ended the monarchy • He ruled Germany and Prussia at the same time. • William was forced to abdicate on 9th November, 1918. • Wilhelm was Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces during WWI.
Friedrich Ebert • Germany’s first president • He was chancellor over Prince Maximilian. • Germany accepted the Treaty of Versailles. • Germany adopted the Weimar Constitution. • He hated revolution, “like a sin”.
Importance/Success • Germany is now a republic. • It was “bloodless” revolution. • The goals of the revolution were succeeded to a certain extent. • Well, the goal of this revolution was peace in my opinion peace can’t ever really be accomplished. • Right after this, WWII started…
