Zeus • Zeus was the God of the sky and ruler of the Olympian Gods • He is Lord of the sky / the rain God • His weapon is a thunderbolt which he throws at those who anger him • He is the youngest out of six children, Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Poseidon and Hades • His father Cronus and his mother Rhea, alongside his brothers they overthrew his father and drew lots for the world Poseidon getting God of the Sea and Hades taking charge of the underworld

  3. Zeus • Before overthrowing his father he was protector of the king and his family • He was married to Hera( who is also his sister) but is famous for his many affairs with goddesses and humans both • The name Zeus means ‘sky’ or ‘bright’ • He is also known by names such as ‘The Rain God’ and ‘The Cloud Gatherer’ • His most famous symbols being and oak, a bull, an eagle and a thunderbolt.

  4. Zeus • ILIAD BOOK ONE: • In the book it seems that he is not afraid to make sacrifices for Achilles mother, Thetis; • “this is going to mean trouble” • He also seems proud and asserts his authority. • “Sit there in silence and obey me” • He is violent against his family and threw Hephaestus off Olympus

  5. ZEUS – unusual fact Athena, one of his daughters, was born from his head (Vulcan had to help extract her from his head). The myth here is that Zeus swallowed his first wife Metis because he was afraid that she would have a child who would overthrow him, so when she became pregnant, he swallowed her. Then, he eventually got a really bad headache because Athena, the daughter of Zeus and Metis, was popping out of his head. Zeus also sort of gave birth to Dionysius after his mortal mother exploded after seeing Zeus in his divine form. Zeus took Dionysius from his mother's womb and sewed him into his thigh until Dionysius was ready to be born.
