This picture shows Zeus holding a lightning bolt and an eagle perched on his hand. I like this picture because it shows the way the Greeks painted. It also showed how they presented their gods in their art. This picture shows Zeus’s attributes, (lightning bolt and eagle) which tells a little bit about him. The Greeks showed Zeus as a strong, fierce man. Attributed to the Berlin painter (ca 470 - 460 BC)
I find this picture of Zeus interesting because it shows Zeus at his throne. The painting also shows Zeus’s sphere of influence, the sky. It also shows Zeus with Thetis. Thetis was a sea nymph (mythical, minor sea goddess) who was courted by Zeus, as well as his brother Poseidon. This picture also presents the attributes of Zeus, the eagle and scepter. Painting by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, 1811
