Health/Wellness course purpose • The purpose of this course is to critically examine wellness concepts within the context of a spiritual (distinctively Christian) commitment. From this perspective, students will be encouraged to adopt attitudes and make behavioral choices that support spiritual values. Course content will be presented through active learning activities, discussion, and laboratory experiences.
Online wellness course integration statement • LeTourneau University is built upon a foundation of Biblical authority, which seeks to glorify God by integrating faith, learning, and living. Key Faith Components are integrated into this course through weekly devotionals, as well as through interaction and discussion with the instructor.
LU Health/Wellness courses have: • A uniquely Christian text: Christian Paths to Health and Wellness • Daily/weekly deductive devotionals and devotional discussion board for further enrichment • Integrated Scripture into course content • Evangelism training with the book Share Jesus Without Fear
Health/wellness integration ideas • Creating personal mission statements • Behavior change using Paul’s struggles in Romans 7:15-25 and in Philippians 3:13-14 • Use Hebrews 12:1-3 to focus on running, Romans 8:28-29 to discuss cancer, James 4:13-17 to discuss CVR disease, Psalm 73:26 for strength training, James 1:2-4 for flexibility, Eccles. 3:11-13 for nutrition, Psalm 23 for stress management, etc.
How to be a competent Christian teacher (admonition to LU teachers) • Pray and stay in the Word • Don’t compare yourself to other teachers • Always strive to learn more • Re-evaluate your teaching methods regularly • Share your faith • Stay positive
