Project S.A.L.T. • (Self-Advocacy Leadership Training) • Training leadership, self-determination and mentoring skills • to individuals with developmental disabilities • by individuals with developmental disabilities.
Community Health & Wellness A community needs assessment and interest survey was conducted to determine the needs of individuals with developmental disabilities as it relates to pursing health and wellness activities in their communities. Work with community programs to improve access to inclusive health and wellness activities
Physician Training Program • Continuing education program for physicians about how to provide effective care to adults with developmental disabilities. • A 12 hour webinar series was conducted July – October 2012 covering topics such as best practices in the care of adults with developmental disabilities, strategies for addressing the psychological and support needs of adults with special health care needs, practical strategies for providing care in medical offices and facilities, and effective billing and reimbursement practices.
Child Development Screening Initiative/Florida Help Me Grow The Child Development Screening Initiative Task Force was established in 2011. The Task Force will continue to develop recommendations and policy changes needed to implement a comprehensive statewide system for the developmental screening of children aged zero to five.
My Health Care A curriculum to educate self-advocates on how to communicate with health care professionals and to identify and advocate for their own health care needs.

Universal Design For Learning • Year 1 – St. Lucie and Collier School Districts • RFP for Year 2 currently Released • Meaningfully including students with Significant Disabilities in General Education Classes • Classroom Technology so everyone is accessing curriculum simultaneously
Collaborative on Discovery and Innovative Employment Practices (CODIE) • Identify & train pertinent school district staff on conducting the Discovery process to create vocational profiles. • Students with completed profiles referred to appropriate programs for additional supports & services to secure employment • Disseminate and train using the resource guide developed for future project implementation • Year 2: Create job development modules • Year 3: Moving project into ADTs
Disability Awareness Through L.A. & Literacy • Developed, Printed and Distributed almost 10,000 Guides to Pre-k – 5th Grade • Provided 6,380 disability awareness books to schools throughout Florida
Early Steps Credentialing Develop face-to-face and on-line training to ensure consistent, reliable evaluation of young children who may need Early Steps services.
Program-WidePositive BehavioralSupports • Year 1 through 4 – Pinellas ELC – Trained Inclusion Specialist in the Pyramid Model to assist children with significant behavioral concerns in Pre-k settings to remain in consistent, positive early educational settings. • Year 5 – Lise Fox – Coached and developed 5 model sites to implement program-wide PBS • Worked with the Office of Early Learning to create and train an Outcome Driven Training Train-the-Trainer module for OEL to continue this work
Project Achieve • Create opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to be trained in a career field of their choice and gain meaningful sustained employment • Students with developmental disabilities will earn a certificate or modified certificate in a career field of their choice and then gain competitive, sustainable employment
Florida Center for Inclusive Communities • - FCIC is one of 67 University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities operating nationwide. FCIC is located at the Tampa Campus of the University of South Florida. • - FCIC was established in 2005. • - FCIC undertakes many activities within a range of program areas including Autism, Early Childhood, Education, Employment, Health, Community Supports, and Interdisciplinary Training. • - FCIC currently has a team of 75 faculty and staff. • - FCIC’s website www.flcic.orgcontains a wealth of information about each program area, including free materials, fact sheets, archived webinars, and training/conference events. • The following is a sample of FCIC’s diverse range of projects!
FCIC Nationwide Programs & Projects Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (TACSEI) TACSEI provides training and technical assistance to states in the adoption of effective intervention models for young children at risk for and with disabilities. Office of Special Education Programs-Training and Technical Assistance Program for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (OSEP-TAC) OSEP-TAC provides training and technical assistance to state and district leadership teams to increase their capacity to provide positive behavior support to students. Training and TA are provided to implement Positive Behavioral Support at the school, classroom, targeted group and individual student levels.
FCIC Statewide Programs & Projects Florida’s Positive Behavior Support Project: Multi-Tiered System of Support Project The mission of this project is to increase the capacity of Florida's school districts to address problem behaviors using Positive Behavior Support (PBS). PBS provides a positive and effective alternative to the traditional methods of discipline. PBS methods are research-based and proven to significantly reduce the occurrence of problem behaviors in the school, resulting in a more positive school climate and increased academic performance. The project is active in 54 of Florida’s 67 school districts. FCIC’s Employment Webinar Series 2013 Free webinars are broadcast on the third Wednesday of each month from 5:00 PM EST – 6:00 PM EST on an array of topics, resources, tools, support strategies, best practices and materials related to current employment supports and services specific to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
FCIC Statewide Programs & Projects Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) HIPPY is a home-based, early intervention/school readiness program for 3-5 year old children. The Florida HIPPY Training and Technical Assistance Center works in collaboration with the HIPPY national office to provide training, technical assistance and guidance to HIPPY programs in Florida, and research and evaluation support to HIPPY programs at the state and national levels. Partnership for Effective Programs for Students with Autism (PEPSA) In collaboration with seven Florida universities (including USF) PEPSA builds professional capacity among educators working with students with autism and related disabilities statewide. The project provides training to educators who are concerned about providing a high quality educational program to students with ASD.
FCIC Countywide Projects Interdisciplinary Center for Evaluation and Intervention (ICEI) ICEI’s innovative clinic is one of five in the Florida Diagnostic Learning and Resource System Network. The ICEI serves children and young adults age 3-22 with complex learning, behavioral, medical and socio-emotional problems as well as their families and teachers. The program provides comprehensive evaluation, consultation, and intervention services, parent education and support services. Referrals can be statewide – most often from Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco. Center for Autism and Related Disabilities CARD is a community-based project that provides information and consultation to individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities. CARD-USF is one of seven CARDs throughout Florida which offers instruction and coaching to families and professionals through a training and technical assistance model. All ages are served in the following counties - Charlotte, Collier, Desoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, and Sarasota.
FCIC Countywide Projects The Program-Wide PBS project supports the program-wide adoption of the teaching pyramid model for supporting the development of young children's social competence and addressing challenging behavior. This project provides training and support to selected early childhood programs in Hillsborough County and monthly workshops open to the community. Program-Wide Positive Behavior Support (PWPBS) Collaboration on Discovery and Innovation in Employment (CODIE) CODIE helps to build the capacity of school professionals in collaboration with community action partners to use the Discovery Process in supporting youth and adults with developmental disabilities (DD) in achieving customized employment. CODIE is currently working with 4 counties - Lee, Pasco, Brevard, and St. Johns
FCIC Academic Programs • - Individualized Interdisciplinary Training that provide opportunities for students and professionals to learn more about how to promote the full inclusion and support of individuals with developmental disabilities within community. • - Masters Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis • - Online Graduate Certificate in Positive Behavior Support • Recently approved to offer PhD in Applied Behavior Analysis • Currently under development - Masters Degree in Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health. FCIC will be responsible for offering a concentration in Developmental Disabilities.
Community Living Formal & Informal Supports Quality Assurance
Developing Community Coalitions • The purpose of this project is to develop four (4) sustainable coalitions in Florida that eventually can support the development of informal and volunteer services to help meet identified unmet needs of individuals with developmental disabilities who are currently on Florida’s Medicaid Waiver waitlist. • The Council has a Memorandum of Agreement with A.P.D. to support project. • Year One: three coalitions formed in Pensacola, Madison, and Gainesville areas. • Year Two: will begin in December 2012 and a fourth coalition will be developed by the conclusion of the second contract year. • A long term goal of this project is to form grassroots coalitions throughout the state that are capable of identifying and increasing access to generic or shared services that can be utilized by the larger community.
