The Word for this is atonement (setting at one with God). Because Jesus is God, His Vicarious Atonement could count for everyone. Because of Christ’s finished work we are justified (declared not guilty).
To redeem us, God’s Son had to humble himself. This means: He made himself poor and lowly; didn’t fully use his divine power and glory.

Free: We don’t earn it. We don’t gain it. It is a gift = Ephesians 2:8 Yet, it cost: The life of Jesus. “The Lord Saves.” Suffering and death. II Corinthians 8:9 Though he was rich, yet for our sakes he became poor. What does this mean? “Our Redemption is Free, but it isn’t Cheap.” Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.

For what purpose did Jesus redeem us?
