Placement 1: Inner Eastern Group Training Some of the services Ie provides include: • Wage calculations and payments • Preparation & distribution of payment advice • Preparation and distribution of PAYG Payment Summaries • Work Cover Premium calculations and payments • Processing of Work Cover claims or paperwork • Processing of leave accruals and payments • Superannuation calculations and payments • Provision of protective clothing supplies • Mentoring/Welfare support (eg. regular visits to student/trainee and employee) • Industrial relations support • Assistance with workplace conflict resolution • Monitoring student/trainee training program, school performance and employment relationship. • OH&S site inspection of workplace • OH&S induction for employees • Co-ordination & pay for required medicals assessments
Placement 1: What did I do? Participated in a range of activities, including: • read expressions of interest for numerous traineeships and apprenticeships; • sat on interviews for Centerlink referrals; and • assisted with pre-testing for job for traineeships (maths testing), interviews and orientation. Workplace Visits: • Court • Department of Justice • Motor Mechanic
Placement 1: Induction Day Successful trainees and apprentices must attend an orientation day prior to starting their traineeship/ apprenticeship. Important information is given during the induction day, including sick leave, superannuation entitlements, uniform and support and mentoring.
Placement 1: Paperwork! There is a lot of paper work to be completed before starting a traineeship.
Placement 1: In-house Training A weekly in-house class forms part of the requirements for completion of a Certificate IV in Office Administration.
Placement 2: Toll IPEC Participated in a range of activities, including: • inbound and outbound call centre • radio room • sorting room • Melbourne CBD deliveries • The work at Toll IPEC involved long and very early and very late starts and finishes. • There are 3 x eight hour shifts at Toll Ipec, hence this company operates 24 hours.
What did I gain? • Inner Eastern Group Training Centre • an understanding of how group training organisations operate and their role in securing traineeships and apprenticeships • relationship between group training centres and welfare organisations such as The Salvation Army and Anglicare – whose role is to seek meaningful employment for the long term unemployed. • Toll IPEC • invited to participate in the Careers and Recruitment Partner Reference Group meeting • initiatives being implemented at a management level in the logistics industry to attract trainees
