What is Edmodo? • It is a virtual classroom, bridging the gap between how our students learn in school vs. how they live their lives outside of it.
Edmodo is… • A discussion board • An assignment drop box • A grade book • A communication tool • A way of involving parents • A collaborative tool • A paperless classroom
What appeal does Edmodo have for kids? • Visually presents just like Facebook • Being able to use technology for homework • Allows them to communicate and complete work more quickly and efficiently
How did Edmodo come about? • The Inventors of Edmodo
Edmodo in action! • How It Works!
100% secure and private • Only you, your students and any parents you choose to invite can view your page. It is NOT open to the public. • Any response posted by a student is seen by you. They can not chat with one another privately. • Students can reply directly to you or to the entire class with their responses.
E-Safety • Children can only access and send messages to their group. • No private messaging between children. • No strangers can “friend” children. • Messages appear instantly, but can be edited or deleted by staff if necessary.
See how fellow educators are using teaching tools. Share ideas.
Drawbacks? • Edmodo’s grading system is not yet as user friendly as E-School Plus • Students under 13 can not legally receive e-mails or text messages from Edmodo under COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) statutes. • Students can not view posted YouTube videos here at school, as the site is blocked for them.
