  2. Prohibition-the beginning • Alcohol banned in early years • Crime rates go up (Duke) • Didn’t stop consumption-in fact, increased it ridiculously • People drank in order to go against this • Due to unpopularity of prohibition, alcohol was allowed for people 21 and up in 1933

  3. College tradition • Traditional in college parties • A feeling of acceptance • Everybody drinks-part of enjoyment

  4. How students rebel • Rebel by drinking-going against the law-law can’t enforce drinking age • Resist arrest-feel it is unjust • Behave obnoxiously in public

  5. Why Students rebel • At age of 18, they are expected to serve the country as an American, however, they are denied the privileges as an American • Drinking is represented as a path to manhood, and maturity

  6. Conclusion • Drinking law cannot be enforced-students still find a way to get alcohol • Enjoyment in college • Students feel it is unjust to stop them from being treated unfair • Students drink anyways
