Associated Features Attacks that can take place at any time and any place, usually lasting between 10 and 20 minutes.
What causes narcolepsy? A number of genetic abnormalities that affect specific biologic factors in the brain. It is not caused by mental illness or psychological problems.
How common is the disorder? Narcolepsy effects as many as 200,000 Americans, fewer than 50,000 are diagnosed.
