Jason-1 Products on EUMETCAST 30 August 2007: In preparation for the operational contribution to Ocean Surface Topography Mission (OSTM), EUMETSAT has commenced on 30 August, the delivery of Jason-1 OSDR data as a demonstration service via EUMETCast-Europe. Early 2008: EUMETSAT plans to deliver Jason-1 data in the Jason-2 OGDR formats (NetCDF BUFR tbc) as a demonstration service via EUMETCast. Future: Possible distribution of DUACS product (after Agreement with CLS)
EUMETCast is… • … EUMETSAT’s Broadcast System for Environmental Data • It is a highly configurable multi-service system, based on standard Digital Video Broadcast (DVB) technology and a combination of communication infrastructure • It is the baseline dissemination mechanism for data from Meteosat and Metop polar orbiting satellites, as well as from other sources • It is the main component of GEONETCast

Satellite Altimetry Specific Objectives • in 2008, successful launch of Jason-2 and start of product dissemination • One of our challenge is also to get closer interactions between the Meteorology and Oceanography user community and MyOcean can certainly help in that process • In 2009/2010, participation to the SARAL project through processing and distribution of NRT product in synergy with Jason-2 • In 2012 a continuity of reference altimetry data beyond Jason-2 i.e. : • A reliable service to the Users in terms of performance, quality and timeliness. A Best Value For Money approach in the implementation/operations • > 2012 Start of operations of Sentinel 3 • Preparation of Post Jason-3 mission for 2017 timeframe: • EUMETSAT was mandated by its Council (Nov. 06) to carry out activities with the aim of positioning EUMETSAT as the leading European operational agency serving the space data needs of the Operational Oceanography User Community with both routine and off-line products • EUMETSAT is organising with Partners the definition of the future altimetry missions beyond Jason-3 • User requirement process, • assessment future technologies for 2017 and beyond, • define a Programme to be developed by ESA and operated by EUMETSAT • structure for long term funding
