Garnet Valley Middle School Athletics • Your child must maintain above a 65 percent average in all classes. • Eligibility report is run each week at the end of the day on Thursdays. Academic Eligibility
Garnet Valley Middle School Athletics • If the student has below a 65 percent average in 1 or more classes, he/she will be considered “Near Ineligible” and put on probation for 1 week. • If the student does not bring his/her grade up to or above a 65 percent average during the probation week, he/she will be deemed “Ineligible” and will be unable to participate in any after school team activities (practice/games) for 1week. Garnet Valley Middle School Athletics Academic Eligibility (cont.) • Notification • Coaches will be notified via email of any athletes who are “Near Ineligible” (probation) or “Ineligible”. • Students will be notified by their coaches on if they are “Near Ineligible” (probation) or “Ineligible” for the week. • All teachers who have an athlete who is not passing their class are notified via email.
Garnet Valley Middle School Athletics Academic Eligibility (cont.) • It is the student’s responsibility to inform his/her parents if he/she are “Near Ineligible (probation) or “Ineligible”.
Garnet Valley Middle School Athletics PIAA Physicals • PIAA requires an Original Physical dated after June 1st of every year. • PIAA Physicals cover a student-athlete for one school year – June 1st through May 31st of the current school year. • Physicals must be handed into the GVMS Main Office by Mid August of each year.
Garnet Valley Middle School Athletics PIAA Re-Certification Form • PIAA Re-Certification Form is Page 7 Section 5 • Re-Certification Form is required for student-athletes who participated in a sport or handed in the physical prior to or during the previous season. (ex. physical handed in September, athlete is trying out for basketball) • It is completed by the Parent/Guardian only, if the athlete sustained an injury during that time frame a physician must sign off on re-certification form. • Re-Certification Forms must be handed into the GVMS Main Office by November 8th for winter season and March 1st for spring season.
Garnet Valley Middle School Athletics Concussion/Act 59 (sudden cardiac arrest syndrome) • PA Youth and Safety Act- “Concussion Law” • Calls for the following: • -Coaches, staff, students, parents to be educated yearly about head injuries. • -Student/parent information sheet • -Staff to complete concussion training • -A student’s return to play after a head injury must be in writing by a trained medical professional. • www.NFHSlearn.com • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Act-Act 59 • Purpose to educate coaches, teachers, students and parents about cardiac Arrest. • -Student/Parent/ staff informational sheet
