Garnet Valley School District 2013 PAYS Report PA Youth Survey, GVSD 6th- 12th: Results to Guide Action PAYS is funded by Delaware County Office of Behavioral Health, Division of Drug and Alcohol Services.
What is PAYS ? • The Pennsylvania Youth Survey has been administered bi-annually since 1989 • PAYS takes a snap shot of our youth in areas of their behavior which can affect their health, safety and welfare now and in the future • Survey results on a state and county level drive the dollars provided for prevention and intervention
Why do the PAYS survey? Provides a school district with the trends in: • Substance use • Mental health • Other risky behaviors • Strengths and protective factors which mitigate those risks • Enhances the ability of the district to track behaviors of concern over time • Provides data on which to set prevention/intervention programs • Provides the data on which to measure our success
Are the results valid? Several strategies are used to ensure the validity of individual surveys : • Prevention – 3 versions • Intervention- 4 dishonesty indicators • Of the 200,622 surveys administered in PA, 7% were found to be invalid. The remaining surveys are considered valid. • Our district had a participation rate of 84.6% which renders our results as highly representative of the our student population.
