Why Podcast?Podcasting in Education • Be an expert in your field • Allows study reviews on the move • Engaging your class with the public • Especially useful for • language classes • speech training • music critique • nature studies (e.g. bird sounds) • medical field (e.g. heart beats)
What is NOT a Podcast? • Lots of misconceptions • Downloading audio via a webpage does not necessarily constitute a podcast • A podcast differs in that it’s regularly updated audio content delivered through RSS feeds • Users would subscribe to such podcasting feeds using podcatching software (e.g. iTunes) • Software automatically downloads audio shows whenever a new one is detected
What is a Podcast? • Podcast ≈ iPod + Broadcasting • “Podcasting allows individuals to have a self-published, syndicated radio show” - Wikipedia • Analogous to Tivo or magazine subscriptions • Audio delivered via RSS subscription • Listen using a Podcatcher or podcast aggregator • Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcasting
