  2. How can the Careers Department help? Common misconceptions: • We are only available for students • We only offer interviews • The best time to engage is towards the end of the year • The Careers Department is only for people who don’t know what they want to do

  3. Who do we help? • Work with external organisations • Leads to jobs, training opportunities, speakers, college visits, external voice • Work with teachers • Continuous Professional Development • Support materials • referral service

  4. Who do we help? • Work with the Youth Support Service (formerly Connexions) • Arranging up to 300 work experience placements per year • Arranging an interview schedule for students • special needs, those who have no ideas at all • those who are leaving and likely to enter NEET • students who need help with applications or mock interviews • CV preparation

Who and how do we help? • Workshops – internal and external speakers • A series of workshops are offered through the academic calendar, eg Finding jobs in a difficult market, CV’s, Interview Technique, HE Finance, Business Enterprise • A broad range of materials maintained for use • Hardcopy books, DVD’s, • Prospectus, Guides etc. • Careers Software • Parentmail • Careers Bulletins (available via the college website)

Who and how do we help? • Careers pages on Moodle (includes many pages of guidance notes, software, podcasts, links to useful websites) • In response to student feedback, we also communicate via a broad range of social media, including, • Facebook (search on lrsfc) • Twitter (@CDeptMgr) • Careers BLOG (http://longroadcd.blogspot.co.uk)
