Focus On Career Pathways • Many elective options available for juniors • Choose electives in your designated pathway (see online Career & College Planning Guide). • If you’re not sure about a pathway, try out different courses to see what you like. • Take a class you enjoy but focus should be on your pathway. • Use the online Course Selection Guide for descriptions!

  4. Class of 2018 = 276 (91) (157) (27) • “Post high school credential” for all • More education does not always mean more money… your income will be greater in the career field where your abilities exist • What can you do and what can you do well??

Course Selection Process • Review Course Selection Guide -- full guide with descriptions is available online: Go to the LD website www.ldsd.org/page/6560 • Discuss with teachers and parents • Signatures on Course Selection Sheet between now and Thursday, February 7th • Forms collected in English classes on Friday, February 8th! • Check the spot on the front of your sheet to schedule a meeting with me to discuss your choices if you choose.

Course Selection Process Continued • Selection Cards must have proper signatures -- teachers & parents • Over-subscribe if you’re not sure • Pay attention to prerequisites • Select alternatives for conflicts • Choose classes based on your post-high school direction! • Select your Career Pathway!!

  7. REMINDERS • Must have 93% or higher final average to move from CP to Honors • Must maintain at least 80% final average to remain in Honors • Must have teacher recommendation/initials for any AP course (and meet pre-requisites)

Sample Schedule (minimum credits: 7.0) 8 period day Required courses: • English 11 (Career Prep, Tech Prep, CP, AP) 1.0 • Chemistry (CPor Honors) OR1.0 Physical Science (TP) *If Physical Science then no more Science is required for student • World History (Career Prep, Tech Prep, CP, AP) 1.0 • If AP, then two.5 electives or an AP Social Studies class will be offered in 12th grade • If CRP, TP or CP, then in 12th grade student will take .5 credit in Modern World History and .5 Social Studies elective • Math (see chart) 1.0 • Careers & Personal Finance 0.5 • Health 0.5 • PE 0.5 Total 5.5

  12. RECOMMENDED CREDITS TO STAY ON TRACK FOR GRADUATION Sophomore Status: 5 Credits Junior Status: 11 Credits Senior Status: 17 Credits How do you earn credits?? What happens if you don’t have enough credits by the end of 4 years??

  13. Keystone Exams • Still required for graduation • Algebra IB or Algebra 1 – exam in May • Biology and English – exam in May • Can take more than once if don’t pass • Prep and remediation courses • No finals in Biology and English this year!

  14. Driver’s Education • Still offered online and taken outside of school in 10th grade • District will pay $65 fee • Need this course to get discount on car insurance • www.shielddriving.com

  15. Course Changes Anytime between now and August… • Contact me to do so • Schedules mailed home around August 5, 2019 • Parent/ Student initiated elective and level changes during summer months until August 16, 2019
