  2. Origins • Originated in the mid 80’s driven by John O’Brien – early approaches used in the 70’s • Learning disabilities – alternatives to institutional care • People are defined by their illness or disability • Many of the same assumptions made of people with Mental Health needs

  5. How are we using and developing PCP in Bromley • 2 Taster days to 100 people • Facilitator training to 16 people • Personal development courses 7 Courses in mainstream 3 in Mental Health service • Total of 57 Students

  6. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT • Welcome – getting to know each other, information about the course. Ground rules hopes and fears • Stigma – how does mental illness block you? Strengths and weaknesses, goal setting, life wheel, questionnaire • Life Coaching – What it is? Pathways to achieving goals, getting organized • The world around you – what affects you, your personal power • Knowing yourself, your values and attitudes, disability how this affects you • What have you got going for you? Achievements/qualities/strengths and skills audit, assertiveness audit, confidence. • Finding support, getting information, building foundations • Boost your confidence, the assertive you • Assertiveness, using it positively • Stress/time management, looking after yourself • Interviews techniques dos and don’ts • Managing you image, selling yourself • Making it happen, take action, networking • Summary of course, feedback/evaluation • How do you feel now? Moving on, presentation/party, feedback students progress
