  1. Shame Has Been Programmed to Destroy Mother’s Day, 2013 • Part II: Home Troubles Can Trigger Shame

  2. Shame comes in various forms; e.g. discouragement, embarrassment, or bad relationships can trigger shame.

  3. Emotional denial is a family secret that has not been explained to others why it is a secret.

  4. There are pains from emotional denial. We have been taught from generation to generation to practice unhealthy behaviors such as: • Not learning how to be affectionate • Teaching that anger is bad instead of teaching that it is manageable

  5. 2 Samuel 13:3&5 • King James Version (KJV) • 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David's brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man. • 5 And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

  6. 2 Samuel 13:12 • King James Version (KJV) • 12 And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

  7. Evil may come to a home by cultivating the friendship and intimacy of unprincipled or cowardly relatives. This is what happened in this home. The father leaves the sin unpunished because Amnon was his firstborn.

  8. He suspected Absolom of scheming to kill his step-brother because Absolom had his spirit. In other words, he knew his child. However, he did not have the energy to stop it. Then, he abandoned his daughter because he was shamed.
