Four-year college Admission Exams • SAT Reasoning Test – Entrance Exam requirements most popular on the west coast • SAT – 1600 (CR & Math) plus writing component • SAT Subject Tests – May be recommended by some schools/majors • ACT – Also fulfills exam requirement, may be required by Midwest schools, max score 36 • SAT or ACT – accepted for admissions
SAT • The SAT focuses on the knowledge and skills that current research shows are most essential for college and career readiness and success. The exam reflects the best of classwork. • Essay is optional – Strongly encouraged! UC – requires it • Score scale of 1600 with separate score for Essay • SAT available in paper and digital forms
HOW TO Prepare for thE SAT • Rigorous course work: The single most important thing students can do is take the most challenging courses available to them and do their best work. The SAT is more integrated with classroom instruction than ever before. • Authentic practice: The College Board is partnering with Khan Academy to provide free practice programs and other resources to help students prepare for the SAT. • Take the PSAT next year in mid-October to be considered National Merit Scholars.
NCAA & NAIACollege Athletics NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) • Separate from NCAA • Similar to NCAA but covers many smaller Christian colleges • Westmont College is an NAIA school NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) • Required for Division I or II • Clearinghouse Eligibility – check with your counselor • Current and final transcripts will be required. YOU must submit AHC transcripts (done through AHC)
