Bob and the Beanstalk • Once upon a time there was a bean selling company who was owned by Bob and his four children. • One day an unhappy customer named Jack approached and complained about his magic beans. • Bob called to his children to have them help “Fiona, Fival, Foreman, Fum, there is an unhappy customer here.”
Fiona happily skipped over to Jack, the unhappy customer, and asked him what she could do to help. • Jack replied “The magic beans you sold me didn’t work. It’s my birthday and all they did was grow this giant beanstalk. Magic beans should dance and now my birthday is ruined!”
Fiona wanted to make the customer happy so she danced all day and into the night. • After it was dark, Jack was finally tired and climbed up the magic bean stalk to go home. • The next day Jack returned and was still unhappy.
Bob called to his children to have them help “Fiona, Fival, Foreman, Fum, there is an unhappy customer here.” • Fival asked Jack why he was still unhappy. • Jack replied “Thanks to you and your silly beans, I wasn’t able to do my taxes. Now I won’t get my refund and am missing out on thousands of dollars.”
Fival wanted to help Jack so he gathered all the paperwork and did Jack’s taxes. • Fival worked late into the night accounting for all expenses and setting the paperwork so that the refund would be as high as possible. • The next day Jack returned and was still unhappy.
Bob called to his children to have them help “Fiona, Fival, Foreman, Fum, there is an unhappy customer here.” • Foreman wanted to do a good job and he listened very carefully to Jack’s complaint. • He knew how important customer service was and wanted Jack to be happy.
Foreman thought about all the things he could do to help a customer, but in the meantime he wasn’t paying attention to what Jack was saying. • Jack interrupted his thoughts and said “You aren’t even listening to me! Your company is very bad and you are very rude!”
To this Foreman replied “Oh so you think I’m rude do you?” • Just then he took out a wood chopping axe! • He chased Jack back up the magic bean stalk until Jack disappeared into the sky.
That night at diner, the children all hung their heads in shame. • Bob asked his children “Fiona, Fival, Foreman, Fum why so sad? Didn’t you take care of that customer?” • “Oh we took care of him all right” said Foreman.
The other children stared at Foreman in frustration. • Fum, who was the youngest and most thoughtful of the children explained to their father what had happened. • At first, Bob was very displeased. However, Fum explained that it would be ok.
Fum told his family that the magic beans came with small print on the bottom of the package. • The magic beans company was only obligated to refund the original value of the beans and the dancing and taxes was worth far more than what Jack had paid. • After that they all laughed and lived happily ever after.
