  3. Astronomy The Mayans possessed a great knowledge of astronomy and followed the movements of the moon, planets, and constellations through the sky. They could also easily mark the position of the sun in the sky. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astronomy

  4. Writing The Mayans developed a complex system of writing. They used symbols, otherwise known as pictographs, to represent ideas.   5. Calendar System The Mayan calendar system was based on a system that had been used in the past. However, the Mayans greatly refined the system.   6. The Arts Some consider Mayan art to be the most beautiful of its time. Paintings, pottery, murals, and ceramics are some examples of Mayan art.
