Morbidity Conclusions • Mandatory notification of all lymphedema cases attended by the system. • Records should be sent to and digitized by a site selected for each country or municipality where clinical health cards are filled out. • Uniform classification should be used (as per the system used by Dr. Gerusa Dreyer). Morbidity • Patients should have access in their communities to • Some means of being identified and referred to an appropriate care center (to be defined by each country or municipality) • Basic conditions to enable proper care of their disease (clean water, soap, medicine, etc.) • Sensitization of all health professionals and specialists in the area Regional LF Program Managers Meeting, Costa Rica, 2005
Morbidity Hydrocele • Define filarial etiology (in each country and municipality with the proper capacity). • Each country should determine the most adequate surgical technique for its situation and advocate use of the Norões technique for severe hydrocele. • Surgeries should be delivered by the most appropriate services as determined by each country.
