Southern New Mexico Border Security Task Forced Goals: • Identify problems and vulnerabilities. • Recommend Solutions • Develop and issue paper that clearly identifies both problems and solutions existing along the Southwest New Mexico border that can be addressed through local, state and federal action. • Continue to meet as needed as needed to follow through on proposed action items, identify new problems in border security and monitor effectiveness of the implementation of the recommendations.

Southern New Mexico Border Security Task Forced Background: April 3, 2004 a Formal proposal by the Office of Senator Jeff Bingaman, the New Mexico Border Authority and the Deming Border Patrol Station, to form the “Southern New Mexico Border Security Task Force”, BSTF. The BSTF was formed as a result of concerns raised by local residents in the Border area regarding security issues and crimes on their property associated with drug smuggling and undocumented immigrants crossing.
