Background • Inspiration. • Just the shear number of blind people in the United States (close to 1.3 million) and in the world (which is close to 37 million). • Grocery stores have many obstacles that could cause grief for a blind shopper. • Furthering last year’s project since they did not complete the entire system. • The BASS team had set out to have a store management & list creation web component to cater to blind users as well as store owners. • Also, last year’s project worked without a full scale test in a grocery store. Business Need • Philanthropic aim stronger than Business aspects. • Computer software is about making people’s lives better. • There are numerous e-shopping websites in the market, and numerous ways for normal people to shop in any store of their choice. • Very limited aid available for blind people while shopping • Seeing Eye Shopper Shopping System’s takes the concept of a Seeing Eye Dog or a white cane with motion sensors. Goals and Vision • Main Goals: • Focusing our development on the other portions of the system. • Shopping List Creation website. • Store Management website. • Store Database. • Secondary Goals: • Improve RFID Scanner to add a wider range. • Have a full blown test of all components of the system. • Future Goals: • Converting the application to a PDA-based application to run on Windows CE or Palm Operating System. • Add more speech instructions to the application.
