Personal Development(& building a PDP) Ryan Smith
Welcome to the development squad… • Very excited to see such a talented group • Tips from me • Talk to your coach!! • Work as a team – use each other • Take ownership of your development • If you have a (real) problem; communicate!! • Smithy can alter appointments • I can get off your back over a PDP • Coaches can be changed
PDPs - Stop moaning & groaning!! • Why have a PDP? • Cos the RFU (allegedly) want one? • To show I take the lead in MY development? • To ensure my development is focused? • SWOT analysis • Your personal take on where you are • Guides what you need • Goals • Set by yourself then get your coaches input • Make them very specific
What to add to your PDP • Personal reflection on each game • Short & sweet, (personal to you how you do this) • DVD analysis • A copy or your overall reflection on the DVD (after analysis) • Coach’s progress report • All MOs reports over the season • At Christmas: • Review your goals • Do another SWOT analysis • Start again…
What not to do… • Leave it for months then try to make one up at the last minute • Do a lazy effort (without proof-reading) • Copy someone else’s – it’s really obvious you’ve done this • Expect your coach to write it for you • It’s your document write what you think/feel • Be aware… I will be taking these in at xmas to see how you’ve done
LUNCH!!! Welcome to our Match Observers
