  16. Effective Teaching Introduction Education message is of the prophets’. Therefore, the teaching profession is of the noblest of professions and highest messages. So it was decided that the teaching professions must, therefore come after an adequate understanding of the essence of education.

  17. Teaching is a life long process inducing some sort of behavioral change. Therefore effective teachers needs certain competences to help learners to create an effective learning that produce change among behavior. Cont. Introduction

  18. Cont. Introduction Teaching is not only knowledge management and transfer to the learner but it is a process of such magnitude and breadth so that it should be detract from the wording and definitions to the tasks and procedures.

  19. Effective teaching is an Active process • Teaching is not a spectator sport. • The more actively engaged the learner is, the more learning takes place. • Different instructional methodologies have greater rates of retention.

  22. Assumptions about adult learners? WHAT IS the definition of an ASSUMPTION??? • assumption is an idea that is formed without evidence. An example of an assumption is that: • there will be food at a party.

Discussion: 10min Participants will be divided into 4 equal groups Each group will select a leader, timer, writer and presenter Record group work on a flip chart. Presenter at the end of the presentation will ask for any addition from the group or any questions from the other groups What are the common assumptions about adult learners?

Assumptions about Adult Learners • Adults need to know why, what, and how they will learn • Adults need to learn experientially • Adults approach learning as problem-solving • Adults learn best when the topic is of immediate value. • Adults view learning as an active process in the construction of meaning

Characteristics of Adult Learners • Self-directing • Experience becomes foundation and resource in learning • Readiness to learn oriented to developmental tasks of social roles • Need to see immediate application of knowledge • Internal motivators • Learn best in informal, pleasant environments

  28. Principles of Adult Learning • Adults are autonomous and self-directed. • Adults have accumulated a foundation of life experiences and knowledge • Adults are goal-oriented . Therefore, they appreciate an educational program that is organized and has clearly defined goal • Adults are relevancy-oriented. They must see a reason for learning something. • Adults are practical, focusing on the aspects of a lesson most useful to them in their work. • adults need to be shown respect. Instructors must acknowledge the wealth of experiences that adult participants bring to the classroom. • People learn at different speeds, so it is natural for them to be anxious or nervous when faced with a learning situation. • Motivation is key with adult learners.
