Bullying Facts • Every 7 minutes someone is bullied at this school! • 3 out of every 4 kids will be bullied! • 1 out of 5 kids admit they are a bully, or are doing some bullying! Source: www.health2.uml.edu
Most Students Are Bullied 77% of all students will be bullied either physically, mentally, emotionally, or verbally!
What Is A Bully? Dictionary Definition – • A person who is regularly cruel, overbearing, or intimidating to others - especially smaller or weaker people.
What Does A Bully Mean To You? A bully is someone who is mean or hurtful to others.
Four Types Of Bullying: 1. PHYSICAL 2. VERBAL 3. INTIMIDATION 4. EMOTIONAL
Physical • Hitting, kicking, pushing • Inappropriate touching (Touching anywhere that is covered by a bathing suit.) • “Horseplay”, “Pantsing”, “Wedgies” • Damaging someone else’s property • Spitting
Verbal • Threats • Fighting words/name calling • Rumors • MySpace.com
Intimidation • Threatening body language • Threatening to take someone's money or property • Making sexual remarks
Emotional • Excluding people • Making fun of someone • Making fun of someone’s clothes • Refusing to speak to someone
The “Eggshell” Victim • Students will be held responsible for all injuries suffered by a victim – even if you did not intend to cause serious harm.
Group Bullying • What’s the worst that can happen? • Someone else brings a weapon • It is now out of your control • Someone is seriously injured EVERYONE WILL BE ARRESTED!
Bullying Based On DIFFERENCES Is Unlawful! • Disability (Physical or Mental) • Gender • Nationality, Race or Ethnicity • Religion • Sexual Orientation GREATER PUNISHMENT !!
Bullying Is A Big Deal! Bullies make you feel: Sad Worried Scared Embarrassed
Why Do People Bully Others? • Attention • Learned behavior • Jealousy • Low self-esteem
Is Someone Bullying You? • TELL SOMEONE! • Don’t become a bully yourself • Don’t bring others into the conflict • DON’T bring a weapon to school
Peer Pressure Do the right thing The choices you make can effect YOU and OTHERS for a lifetime
Joining A Gang Is The Wrong Solution • It’s illegal • “Jumping-in” requires a serious beating • You’ll be arrested • You’ll end up in poverty, jail, or DEAD
Types Of Gangs • White gangs • Hispanic gangs • Asian gangs • African-American gangs • Tagging crews • Any group of three or more committing crimes
Police And Gangs • Gang members will be arrested • Severe punishment in court!! ZERO TOLERANCE In Riverside County
NEVER Bring A Gun Or Weapon To School!! You will be: Expelled Arrested and go to Juvenile Hall ! ZERO TOLERANCE!
What Can I Do If Someone Is Bullying Me? • Stay safe • Tell an adult • Be a part of the solution

School Penalties Minimum – • Lunch Duty • Three page essay • Detention • Suspension (Probable) Maximum – • Expulsion
