Chata’ogla or Chata’ • Language: Western Muskogen • Before Contact: an estimated population of 20,000 in more than 100 agricultural villages • Food: Corn, Squash, and Bean crops supplemented by hunting
Men and Women Roles • Both sexes helped with the farming • Women when needed went and gathered berries and roots • Men formed hunting parties and provided meat for their families.
Religion • Primary Deity was the Sun • As well as his companion Fire • Believed in a large number of supernatural beings • Believed in Magic • alikchi, doctors, healed sickness
Dances • Held in the open area in the center of the village • More social than religious in nature
