Where did they live? • Southwestern Alabama and Southeastern Mississippi.

government • They gave up their territory in the Southeast in exchange for land in Indian territory (later Oklahoma). • The Choctaw were friendly with the new settlers. They were also the first tribe to sell part of there land to the United States. They were one of the most powerful.
Rituals/ceremonies • The Choctaw celebrate with a Green Corn Ceremony of Thanksgiving that occurs during summer. • Another ritual of the Choctaw is head flattening. They attach a board to make infants head. • The Fire Ritual is another ceremony. A priest would light a now fire symbolizing a new year.
Unique facts • They wore flat heads. They were also known as mound builders. Their population was 12,000 and they near present-day Sumter, Choctaw, and Washington counties.
