  3. Why should you give support? • To maintain high morale • To prevent burnout • To show appreciation • To keep communication open • To make your organization appealing • To keep quality staff

  4. When give support to staff and volunteers? Any time, but especially: • When they are new • When they are going through difficulties • On special occasions, such as birthdays and graduations

  5. How do you provide support? • Create a supportive environment. • Support the work itself. • Give personal support.

  6. Creating a supportive environment • Create a safe environment • Make a comfortable space • Have beverages available • Have work materials available

  7. Supporting the work • Involve staff in decisions • Train works thoroughly • Accept personal initiative • Apply policies to everyone • Match people and tasks • Recognize work well done • Give regular feedback

  9. Giving personal support • Be approachable. • Reimburse work-related expenses. • Send birthday cards. • Know more about workers. • Remember workers in times of crisis.
