What does their work address? • The Gorillaz (then known as Gorilla) was created as a social commentary on MTV and the superficiality that it promoted • Created by Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett • “If you watch MTV for too long, it's a bit like hell - there's nothing of substance there. So we got this idea for a cartoon band, something that would be a comment on that.“ -Jamie Hewlett • Much of their animations were done by Passion Pictures

  5. Their relevance in New Media Design • They have found a way to incorporate animation and interactive design in music through their music videos, website, concerts, and various images and videos that they have produced

How have The Gorillaz influenced me? • The music video for Clint Eastwood was my introduction to the Gorillaz • Their hand-drawn drawing style and animated videos • I used to draw the characters a lot • Their animated music videos were what got me interested in doing animation • Their website used to be an interactive tour through the “Kong Studios” • Their website was a large influence on my website project
